The Scheme
Barratt Homes was selected via a competition by Lewisham Council as their development partner to develop their proposals for the site at Loampit Vale.
In 2008 Barratt Homes proposed a regeneration scheme for Renaissance in partnership with the London Borough of Lewisham and London & Quadrant Housing Trust.
Following discussions with local residents and key statutory bodies such as the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), the scheme was redesigned.
The proposals for Renaissance embrace 21st Century urban living and will deliver an exciting future for Lewisham. This mixed-use development will provide:
- A new leisure centre which will achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard, incorporating a 25-metre competition swimming pool, gym, café, crèche, health spa and indoor climbing wall
- 788 new homes, of which 149 are affordable
- Residential units achieving Code 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes
- Commercial, business and retail units
- Creative industries
- New public open spaces and piazzas
- Energy centre and green roofs
- New facilities for the London City Mission
Delivering a landmark building that reflects a commitment to the arts, artist Phil Coy is working with LA Architects to use the façade of the leisure centre to form a unique art installation. The bright exterior of the illuminated glass adapts to create an ever-changing, vibrant landmark building and an exciting new focus for Lewisham.
Planning permission was granted in September 2009, and construction started on site in April 2010, with the site due to be completed by June 2015. Construction on Phase 1, Florence Corte started in April 2010 and was completed in June 2011 and is now fully occupied. Construction on Phase 2, Paris Corte was completed in November 2011.
Construction on the leisure centre began in July 2011 and is due to be completed by April 2013.
Adjacent to Lewisham bus and train station, there is access to mainline rail services direct to London Bridge and DLR services direct to Canary Wharf. This, together with a commitment to deliver Sustainable Homes level Code 4, highlights the development’s sustainable credentials.
